Lucky to be in an idyllic location next to the sandstone bridge on the Cairn O Mount Rd (B974).
Original wall had been damaged by a vehicle. The wall had been down for some time.
All of the original coping stone and cheek-end had been reclaimed from the original work. The smaller stone used for the coursing was field stone, commonly used in the local vernacular.
Original wall was taken down to the footings and rebuilt in fresh lime mortar. Tradiblanc was used as the binder, as the client had used in the restoration of their home with great success.
The walls profile was built on a curve with a batter to match that of the cheek-end. The wall was built at the height of winter. I was very selective with the day's and temperatures when I was building as lime can be a challenge to work with in low temperatures. The wall was securely protected in it coverings and cured slowly over a period of time. And survived wintry spells including snow and ice. Which proves the importance of protecting your work relative to the conditions.
