This was my first time that I had been invited to RHS Tatton and I wasn't sure what to expect.
Carl Hardman of Landmark Walling and the chair of the Derbyshire branch of the DSWA (Dry Stone Walling Association) invited me to work with his team.
I've known Carl since I was 16. He's a friend and a colleague and an excellent waller.
All of the collaborators for the Landmark Walling team gave up their time to produce this feature designed by Carl to demonstrate live for the visitors of RHS Tatton.
A great discovery through this experience was that I had previously known the other wallers within the community only through social media. It was great to meet all of them, learn their names and get to know who they are.
It's extremely helpful knowing that there is a team of people I can call upon to help out with work or personally that I had not previously known. Walling can be a lonely and solitary profession. This experience taught me that it doesn't necessarily need to be.
If you or anyone you know have an interest in Dry Stone Walling, I recommend getting in touch with your local branch to see how you can get involved.
Below are the websites of the DSWA and Derbyshire branch (which I am a member of):
It was well worth the trip from Fife to get involved!
